2007
SESQUICENTENNIAL CELEBRATION
Carteret County, NC

Patricia Raskin, Executive Director. This celebration was arguably the town's largest and most successful event in 50 years. In May 2007, the Town of Morehead City hosted the 150th Anniversary Celebration of local Heritage and Culture with a series of exciting and informative festivities. These will include a train ride and reception, street dances, the North Carolina Symphony, a food event, opening the Time Capsule, daily music, fireworks displays, a Home and Heritage Tour, an assortment of parades, a sailboat race, an art show, an antique car show, celebrities, a golf pro exhibition, plays and a pageant, a road race, a submarine and other great exhibits. A book highlighting this event and covering the last 50 years of Morehead City's history has just been published: "Postcards from Morehead City, a Celebration of Life and Heritage." 3rd Annual MOREHEAD CITY HOMES/HERITAGE TOUR 2005: A Neigborhood Walking Tour
of the "Promise Land"

On Saturday, May 21, 2005, nine private homes and gardens in the historic Promise' Land area of Morehead City, North Carolina were opened to the public. This event included a fundraising preview party, a heritage luncheon for participants and two art exhibits. Both narrated tours and neighborhood history tours were offered. Sponsored by the Downtown Morehead City Revitalization Association, and with Patricia Raskin as Executive Director, this community event was great fun and a huge success. In 2005, the Tour received the distinguished Malcolm Fowler Historical Society Award for Historical Content.

The Preview Party and Fundraiser







The 2005 Morehead City Homes and Heritage Tour: Patricia Raskin, radio personality and writer, was retained by the DMCRA tochair and coordinate the MHC homes tour in 2005. This very popular event featured a selection of homes in the downtown residential area known as the Promise Land. The homes were selected to illustrate the diversity of this downtown neighborhood, from cozy cottagesto grand showplaces.
